A wildfire erupted in the Agriles area of Chania, Crete, early Friday, triggering a significant response from local firefighting forces.
According to initial reports, the blaze is burning through an area of mixed farmland and forest. Firefighters were quickly mobilized to the scene, with 36 personnel deployed, including a specialized ground team from the 19th EMODE unit. Thirteen fire engines and two firefighting helicopters have also been dispatched to support efforts from the air.
The fire comes amid growing concerns following recent blazes in other parts of Crete, including Ierapetra, where several areas have been declared in a state of emergency due to widespread damage.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation in Agriles closely, as firefighting teams work to bring the flames under control and prevent further spread.
