A wildfire broke out on Monday near the Athens Polytechnic campus in the Zografou district, prompting a large-scale emergency response. The blaze, which is burning through low vegetation, has triggered a civil protection alert and the activation of the 112 emergency warning system.
Authorities sent a warning message to nearby residents via 112, urging them to remain on alert and follow official instructions.

The firefighting operation involves significant resources. A total of 65 firefighters, two ground teams from the 1st Special Unit for Forest Operations (EMODE), 20 fire engines, and volunteers have been mobilized. Aerial firefighting assets have also been deployed, including seven helicopters and six aircraft.
Authorities have implemented traffic restrictions in parts of Athens due to the wildfire near the Polytechnic campus in Zografou. The following diversions are currently in place:
- On Alimou–Katechaki Avenue, traffic heading toward central Athens is being diverted at the Kaisariani junction.
- On Katechaki Avenue, vehicles heading toward Ymittos are being diverted from Kokkinopoulou Street.
- On the Attiki Odos (Ymittos Ring), traffic heading toward Katechaki Avenue is being rerouted from the Cholargos junction.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and follow instructions from traffic authorities to ensure their safety and facilitate the work of emergency services.


The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage. The situation is ongoing, with fire crews working to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading closer to residential areas or university facilities.
