Greece’s basketball team suffered a blowout loss, 94-68, against a dominating Turkish side on Friday evening during the Eurobasket 2025 semifinal in Riga, Latvia.

Vassilis Spanoulis’ “blue-and-white” squad failed to reach the final for a repeat of a 2005 championship game against Germany. For Turkey, qualification to the final comes for the first time since 2001.

Greece’s previously controlling pressing game and concentration was absent on Friday, with the team suffering 22 mistakes, many committed without pressure from their opponents, while the Turkish side converted 25 points from the former’s mistakes.

NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo posted his worst performance of the tournament for the Greek side, scoring a mere 12 points on the night against his tournament average of 30 points, as Turkish coach Ergin Ataman’s defensive schemes were wildly successful in neutralizing the biggest threat against them.

Next up for Greece in a game to determine third place will be upstart Finland, which hours earlier fell to tournament favorite Germany.

The game will take place on Sunday afternoon (15.00 GMT), four hours between the final pitting Turkey against Germany.
