Greece’s national team delivered its worst performance at EuroBasket 2025, suffering a heavy 94–68 defeat to Turkey in the semifinals. For Turkey, the victory marks a historic return to the final for the first time since 2001.
After the game, head coach Vassilis Spanoulis — a Greek basketball legend and former EuroLeague star — admitted his team was far from ready to meet the challenge, pointing to unforced errors and lapses in energy as the decisive factors.
“We weren’t ready energy-wise, and we made far too many childish mistakes,” Spanoulis said. “Defensively, we conceded exactly what we had said we needed to avoid. These things happen, but I am very proud of the players. We have another opportunity in front of us to claim the medal we want so much. We didn’t play to our potential, and our lack of focus on defense really cost us.”
Looking ahead, Spanoulis turned his focus to the bronze-medal game against Finland, who earlier fell to tournament favorite Germany.
“We’ll study them, and I believe we’ll be ready to play this very big game,” he noted.
Greece will face Finland on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. local time (15:00 GMT) in the third-place playoff, just four hours before the final showdown between Turkey and Germany.
