The Greek men’s water polo national team will play in the World Cup final in Sydney tomorrow (Sunday, July 26) after it was victorious against Italy (10-9) in the second semi-final on Saturday afternoon (Greek time).
In a hard-fought game, after a lackluster performance in the first quarter, the Greek team managed to open a 3-goal gap for most of the duration, but Italy came back strong in the final quarter.
A save in the final second of the match by the Greek goalkeeper when his team was down one man pushed Greece over the finish line. This is Greece’s sixth major final. World powerhouse Hungary awaits them in the final, where Greece hopes to add the gold to their illustrious silverware cabinet.
