Greece secured a historic 1-0 victory over Germany in Augsburg on Sunday, making it two wins from two in League A of the UEFA Nations League and recording its first-ever victory over the German national side.
Dimitris Kourbelis scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute, completing a result that put Greece at the top of its group.
However, alongside the result, much of the post-match discussion focused on Konstantinos Karetsas, whose individual skill produced one of the game’s most memorable moments.

The 18-year-old midfielder produced a spectacular piece of skill against Germany’s Jonathan Burkardt in the 79th minute, just five minutes after Kourbelis had put Greece ahead.
Karetsas used a deft touch to send the ball through Burkardt’s legs, leaving the Germany forward wrong-footed as the Greek teenager continued forward. The move quickly spread across social media, where fans celebrated the audacious piece of skill.
“Lionel Karetsas” and “He made them dance syrtaki” were among the characteristic reactions to the move, as fans highlighted the teenager’s increasingly distinctive talent.
Karetsas had already made his presence felt during the match, repeatedly producing dangerous dribbles in Germany’s final third and creating opportunities with his movement and close control.
Karetsas joined Borussia Dortmund from Belgian club Genk in August 2026 in a deal that reportedly exceeded 35 million euros, making it the biggest transfer in Genk’s history. The 18-year-old signed a contract with Dortmund through June 2031 after emerging through Genk’s academy and establishing himself in the first team.
The win leaves Greece on six points from two matches, while the result marked the national team’s first victory over Germany.
