Greek world champion long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou became the first man to win four consecutive European titles in the competition by claiming gold at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Tuesday with a best performance of 8.44 meters.
The two-time Olympic champion produced his winning effort in the fourth round, overcoming a headwind of 1.1 meters per second to move decisively into first place. He finished ahead of Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer, who took silver with 8.29m, while Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Saraboyukov won bronze with 8.26m.
Tentoglou opened the final with 8.27m into a 1.4 m/s headwind and followed with 8.19m under the same conditions. His third attempt also reached 8.27m, leaving Ehammer in the lead after the Swiss athlete jumped 8.29m on his second attempt following a foul on his opener.
Ehammer fouled his final attempt, while Tentoglou chose not to take a sixth jump after his title was secured. His victory extended a remarkable run at the European outdoor championships, with gold medals at the 2018, 2022, 2024 and 2026 editions. European Athletics and World Athletics list his name as Miltiadis Tentoglou, Simon Ehammer and Bozhidar Saraboyukov.
