A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Kulu, in the Konya Province of central Turkey, according to reports. The tremor was felt across the capital, Ankara, as well as neighboring provinces.
Meanwhile, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) recorded the quake at a magnitude of 5.0, with a shallower depth of 11 kilometers, underscoring minor variances in seismic data between institutions.
The quake had a depth of approximately 18.73 kilometers. According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, no damage has been reported so far. Authorities confirmed that emergency teams began immediate field assessments.
Speaking to CNN Türk, a seismologist said the likely source of the tremor was the Cihanbeyli fault line, adding the region included multiple active faults capable of generating earthquakes of this magnitude — and potentially larger.
Turkish media report that aftershocks of up to magnitude 4.2 are expected as part of the ongoing seismic sequence, which is being closely monitored.
