French authorities have arrested five additional suspects in connection with the high-profile jewelry theft at the Louvre Museum on October 19, bringing the total number of arrests related to the case to seven, French radio station RTL reported Thursday.
Earlier, BFM TV reported that another individual was detained in the Paris area on Wednesday night. He is suspected of being present at the scene of the crime during the morning of the heist.
The Paris prosecutor’s office has not yet provided official comments regarding the ongoing investigation.
Two of the earlier suspects are believed to be the couple who broke into the Apollo Gallery, where the thieves stole valuable jewelry. According to Paris prosecutor Lorr Becouet, the pair have partially admitted their involvement in the robbery.
The October 19 heist involved four hooded thieves who fled with the stolen jewelry, highlighting security gaps at the Louvre, one of the world’s most visited museums.
Despite the arrests, the stolen items have not yet been recovered, and around 100 police officers remain engaged in the investigation. Authorities have indicated that there is no evidence of inside accomplices at the museum, but they have not ruled out the possibility that the criminal group includes additional members beyond the four who executed the theft.
