The digital governance ministry on Wednesday announced that mobile phone service for users in the Gulf states with Greece-registered providers will be free, with any restrictive measures on their connections suspended.

As expected, the Greek ministry cited the ongoing situation in the Middle East as necessitating a measure to ensure uninterrupted communication for citizens in the wider region.

Additionally, the measure will facilitate communication from Greece to the same affected countries through free international calls and SMS.

According to an announcement, the three main mobile phone providers in the country – Cosmote Telekom, Nova and Vodafone – have activated emergency free service packages for subscribers located in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait.

Cosmote’s package is further extended to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Iran, Iraq and Oman, while Vodafone’s extraordinary measures are additionally extended to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Israel.

The benefits include free mobile data in roaming, free voice minutes and SMS, as well as free international calls from Greece to the specific countries.
