A planned repatriation flight for Greek citizens stranded in Dubai, which was also set to transport their pets back to Greece, has been postponed, leaving dozens of people awaiting further instructions.
The operation, organized by Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and codenamed “Ark,” had been in preparation for more than two weeks. It aimed to bring around 90 Greek nationals and approximately 100 pets safely back to Greece from the United Arab Emirates.
Despite the detailed planning, the special flight did not take place as scheduled, causing frustration and uncertainty among those waiting to depart.
Drone attack disrupted airport operations
According to officials, the delay appears to be linked to the temporary closure of Dubai’s airport following a drone attack that triggered a fire in a fuel tank. The incident led to major disruptions to flight schedules.
Although the airport has reportedly reopened, the repatriation flight has not yet been reinstated in the schedule.
Many refused to leave without their pets
Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Yiannis Loverdos said the operation had been carefully planned to ensure that all logistical and travel requirements were met. A key element of the plan was allowing passengers to travel together with their pets, as many had refused to leave the country without them.
For now, the participants remain in the UAE, waiting for an update from authorities on when the repatriation flight will finally take place. Greek citizens involved in the operation are hoping the mission will proceed as soon as possible.
