A 37-year-old Palestinian man accused of membership in Hamas and plotting an attack against a target linked to Israeli interests was brought before the Athens Court of Appeals at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
He faces charges of forming and joining a terrorist organization, receiving training in the manufacture and use of explosives for the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts, traveling abroad to attend training for terrorist activities, and providing criminal support for terrorist purposes.
The defendant had previously been granted a continuance and appeared in court Thursday to enter his plea.
Authorities are also examining evidence related to his training in the production of synthetic explosive substances. According to the investigation, the suspect is believed to have even placed an online order for explosive materials.
Thorough Searches and Seizures
Police conducted extensive searches at the apartment he used near Amerikis Square in Athens, as well as at residences in Crete. During those searches, digital and laboratory evidence was seized.
According to authorities, the items recovered included mobile phones, a laptop, data storage devices, bank cards, and specialized laboratory equipment, such as a precision analytical scale and a magnetic stirrer with a heated plate. All seized items have been sent to forensic laboratories for further analysis.
