Russian military forces carried out strikes on Tuesday, July 28, on at least two Ukrainian ships, including a bulk carrier reportedly transporting military equipment, along with a vessel in the port of Mykolaiv, on the Black Sea, according to a statement from Russia’s Defense Ministry. The port of Mykolaiv itself was also targeted.
According to the ministry’s statement, attack drones struck transshipment infrastructure at the port that was being used to receive and store military cargo, along with fuel and lubricant storage tanks meant to resupply Ukraine’s armed forces.
Moscow also said drones struck a dry cargo ship carrying military equipment near Odesa, hitting it in the area around the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk.
In recent weeks, Russia and Ukraine have ramped up military operations in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, with strikes hitting dozens of vessels, including oil tankers.
Reuters noted it was unable to independently verify the Russian Defense Ministry’s claims.
