The United States military said on Sunday it had sunk an Iranian warship in the Gulf of Oman and urged Iranian forces to lay down their arms, as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated sharply, as reported by Reuters.

U.S. Central Command, which is overseeing ongoing American military operations against Iran, said it destroyed an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette docked at a pier in Chah Bahar. In a post on X, Central Command called on Iranian personnel to abandon their positions.

“As the President said, members of Iran’s armed forces, IRGC and police ‘must lay down your weapons.’ Abandon ship,” the command said, referring to remarks made on Saturday by Donald Trump.
The Jamaran-class corvette is operated by the Iranian navy and is considered one of Tehran’s more advanced domestically built surface combatants.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched four ballistic missiles at the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, according to Iranian state media.

The U.S. Central Command and the Pentagon denied Tehran’s claim that the carrier had been struck in the Gulf.

“The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn’t even come close,” Central Command said in a separate post on X.

“The Lincoln continues to launch aircraft in support of CENTCOM’s relentless campaign to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” the statement added.

The conflicting accounts underscore the intensifying confrontation between the two adversaries, with both sides exchanging claims as military operations continue in and around the strategically vital Gulf waters.
