Μake us preferred on Google Greece’s Ministry of National Defense has received a €5 million donation proposal from Reggeborgh Invest B.V. to establish a trauma center for the country’s Armed Forces in Athens.
The center is planned for the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, while a branch is also expected to be established at the University Hospital of Balamand in Lebanon.
The project is planned in cooperation with Harvard University and the Trauma Department of Massachusetts General Hospital, led by Dr. George Velmahos.
Focus on severe trauma cases
The proposed center will be designed to provide comprehensive and immediate care for patients with serious traumatic injuries, from diagnosis and stabilization through definitive treatment.
It will use modern medical and technological capabilities while strengthening the operational and health care capabilities of the 401 General Military Hospital.
The center is part of the Hellenic Army General Staff’s plans to upgrade health care services for Armed Forces personnel and their families.
According to the plans, the new facility could also help make better use of existing resources and acquire broader utility within Greece’s National Health System.
Part of the “Agenda 2030”
The Ministry of National Defense thanked Reggeborgh Invest B.V. and the Wessels–Holterman family for the initiative, which is part of the government’s “Agenda 2030.”
The next step is to complete the required procedures so the donation can proceed and implementation of the trauma center can begin.
