Spain has agreed to cooperate with the U.S. military in its operation against Iran, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Wednesday.
“The U.S. military is coordinating with their counterparts in Spain,” she said, adding that President Trump expects cooperation from all American allies in Europe.
Trump had earlier threatened to cut trade with Spain over its refusal to allow U.S. forces to use joint bases for strikes on Iran. “I think they heard the president’s message yesterday loud and clear,” Leavitt said. “It’s my understanding over the past several hours, they’ve agreed to cooperate with the U.S. Military.”
Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has criticized the strikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel as “unjustifiable.”
