Princess Alexandra of Hanover has honored her grandmother, Grace Kelly, by wearing one of the late actress and Monaco princess’s iconic Givenchy gowns—64 years after Kelly first wore the dress in Athens.
Alexandra, 27, shared a series of photographs on Friday, September 18, showing herself in the striking gold gown, which is decorated with thousands of beads. Her appearance came just one week after her engagement to Ben Sylvester Strautmann was announced.
The floor-length dress features a classic round neckline and a deep V-shaped back. Alexandra paired the vintage gown with understated gold jewelry and a simple black clutch, allowing the elaborate dress to take center stage.
The occasion for which Alexandra wore the gown was not disclosed.
The Givenchy dress Grace Kelly wore in Athens
Grace Kelly wore the same gown in May 1962, when she attended the wedding of the future King Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Sofia in Athens.
The ceremony took place at the Church of Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, where Kelly attended alongside her husband, Prince Rainier of Monaco.
Black-and-white photographs from the occasion show Kelly wearing the gold gown with white gloves and diamond jewelry. She wore her hair in an elegant chignon, completing the formal look.
Kelly, who died at 52 following a car accident near Monte Carlo, became a lasting style icon, and the vintage Givenchy creation remains closely associated with one of her appearances in Athens.

Alexandra’s Instagram post featured four photographs. In one, she poses in the gown inside a lavish mirrored room; another shows a bouquet of yellow roses. A mirror selfie captures her trying on the dress, while a final image highlights the gown’s back and its intricate design.
The post quickly drew admiration from followers.

Alexandra Leclerc, the wife of Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, also shared her appreciation in the comments, posting three heart-eye emojis.
