Μake us preferred on Google Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Sheltering Sky (Τσάι στη Σαχάρα) will be screened Thursday, September 3, at the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST). This is part of its CINEFIX film screening program on the museum’s rooftop.
The screening will begin at 9 p.m. and will present Bertolucci’s 1990 adaptation of Paul Bowles’ acclaimed novel. The film runs for 138 minutes and will be shown in English with Greek subtitles.
Set in postwar North Africa, The Sheltering Sky follows Port and Kit Moresby as they travel into the Sahara in search of a second chance for their marriage and a deeper understanding of themselves.

As the desert and intense heat strip away their sense of familiarity and certainty, the journey becomes an increasingly difficult existential odyssey. Their relationship, desires and identities are tested against the vastness and silence of the landscape.
Based on Bowles’ novel, Bertolucci’s film explores loneliness, mortality and the fragile nature of human existence through an intensely sensual and contemplative journey across the Sahara.
The cast includes Debra Winger, John Malkovich, Campbell Scott, Jill Bennett, Timothy Spall and Tom Novembrino.
The screening takes place at EMST on Thursday, September 3, at 9 p.m.
