Universal Pictures released the first official trailer of Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited movie, starring Matt Damon, “The Odyssey” on Monday.

The action epic, based on the Homeric poem, follows the trials and tribulations of the King of Ithaca, Odysseus, and his crew after the Trojan War.

Besides Hollywood headliner Matt Damon, the star-studded cast also includes Tom Holland (Telemachus, son of Odysseus), Anne Hathaway (Odysseus’s wife Penelope) Robert Pattinson, who plays Antinous, the most arrogant and dangerous of Penelope’s suitors, Lupita Nyong’o in a dual role of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, with Zendaya playing the Goddess of Wisdom Athena, and Charlize Theron (Circe).

The movie is scheduled to open in theaters globally on July 17, 2026.

This is the 5th adaptation of Homer’s epic saga. The previous four were: A 1954 Italian film titled “Ulysses” (Latin for the Greek Odysseus) starring Kirk Douglas as Odysseus. “The Odyssey”, a 1997 Emmy-winning miniseries with Armand Assante. A 2000 comedic adaptation, “O Brother, Where Art Thou” starring George Clooney and John Torturo, loosely based on the poem. And a 2006 film, also called “The Odyssey”, focusing on Odysseus’s journey and underworld visit.
