The Region of Central Greece has launched a new support program for farmers and livestock breeders that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into agricultural production.
The project, titled “Applications Using IoT Technologies to Support Local Agricultural Production with Innovative Tools”, comes with an initial budget of 434,000 euros. Its aim is to design, install, and operate a comprehensive system that enhances agricultural practices across the region.
What the project includes
The initiative will develop and implement:
• Precision farming applications for open-field and tree crops.
• Web-based management and smart greenhouse monitoring systems.
• An integrated “green” traceability system.
• Smart biosensor systems to assess livestock welfare and detect health issues.
Data collected through sensors will be centralized in an information management system, where it will be analyzed to identify best practices and recommend strategies for both farming and livestock management.

Following the signing of the project’s implementation contract, Central Greece Regional Governor Fanis Spanos stated:
“We are now entering the implementation phase to support both farmers and livestock breeders in our region. We are installing systems and applications that will collect data from crops and animals, enabling us to detect problems and propose solutions. New technologies have multiple and truly valuable applications, and it is our duty to harness them for the benefit of our regional economy.”
