The Attica Region has won the Gold Award for the first time in the “Best Governance Implementation Project” category at the Compliance Awards 2026, according to an announcement.
The award recognizes the implementation of the new General Government Accounting Framework and the broader modernization of the region’s financial operations.
The start of mandatory implementation of the framework marked the starting point for reforming the region’s financial services. Regional officials used the regulatory change as an opportunity for digital and administrative transformation.
According to the announcement, the migration of IT systems to the new framework and the reorganization of key processes led to the consolidation and interoperability of financial data. The changes also reduced errors, strengthened fiscal compliance and improved the quality of financial reporting.
“The use of actual financial data contributed to a significant improvement in budget accuracy and to well-founded administrative decisions,” the announcement said.
Implementation manuals for the new framework have been posted on the region’s official website and are available for public use.
Commenting on the award, Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias said: “At a time when the credibility of institutions and bodies is being tested by what is happening around us, the Attica Region chooses to respond with action: with transparency, accountability and strict adherence to the rules.”
