Μake us preferred on Google The Attica regional government has approved 11 projects to build, upgrade and improve municipal sports facilities across 10 municipalities, with total public funding of €15.54 million.
Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias signed the decisions to include the projects in the Attica Regional Development Program 2026-2030, which is funded through the national component of Greece’s Public Investment Development Program.
The projects cover a wide range of needs, including new sports facilities, stadium and track renovations, replacement of playing surfaces, upgrades to locker rooms and sanitary facilities, improvements to electrical and mechanical systems, new lighting and sports equipment, and the installation of air-supported sports domes.
The municipalities covered are Agioi Anargyroi-Kamatero (€1.5 million), Agia Varvara (€5 million), Egaleo (€1.7 million), Ilion (€2.2 million), Kallithea (€659,680), Lavreotiki (€942,502), Papagou-Cholargos (€534,000), Petroupoli (€419,368), Saronikos (€682,000) and Haidari (€1.9 million).
Hardalias said the projects share a focus on safety, accessibility, functionality and energy efficiency, with the goal of improving sports facilities used by athletes, clubs, schools, children and residents of all ages.
He also said the regional government had prioritized upgrading municipal sports facilities because they are an important part of everyday community life.
According to Hardalias, Attica has also moved from eighth to first place nationally in the absorption of European funds among Greece’s 22 regional and sectoral programs over the past two and a half years.
Hardalias said that after the 11 projects were approved, close cooperation and systematic monitoring would be needed to ensure the interventions are completed properly and delivered to local communities as quickly and safely as possible.
