Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar played the “Cyprus card” on Wednesday in reply to shocking comments earlier in the day by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a long-time detractor of the Israel, who went so far as to compare Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler.
The inflammatory Erdogan address, as sharply criticized by Israeli and other international media, was made in support of Iran and its reaction to Israeli attacks.
“…In 1974, Ankara invaded northern Cyprus after a coup backed by Greece, and later established the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus — a state recognized only by Turkey that remains under Turkish control despite international disapproval,” was the sharp response, among others, by the Israeli foreign minister.

The “tit-for-tat” continued later in the day with a reaction from Turkey’s foreign ministry, which referred to an “unsuccessful psychological operation attempt” meant to attract attention and change the subject of discussion.
“The Israeli Foreign Minister has made another post filled with slander targeting our country and our esteemed President (Erdogan),” was the Turkish reaction.
