Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed a delegation of U.S. senators to the Maximos Mansion on Friday, underscoring what both sides described as the strongest level of Greek-American relations in recent memory.
The U.S. congressional delegation, led by Republican Sen. Jerry Moran, included Sens. John Barrasso, Deb Fischer and John Boozman. Also present were Democratic Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Gary Peters, along with U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle. On the Greek side, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and senior government officials attended the meeting.

Energy and Security at the Center of US-Greece Talks
Energy security and defense cooperation topped the agenda, reflecting Greece’s growing strategic role in southeastern Europe.
Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s position as a “pillar of stability and security” in a region facing significant geopolitical pressures. He also pointed to the country’s expanding role as an energy gateway for southeastern Europe through the Vertical Corridor.
“Our infrastructure plays a crucial role in supplying our northern neighbors, including Ukraine, with natural gas, preferably American LNG,” Mitsotakis said, referring to liquefied natural gas exports from the United States.
A high-level meeting on the Vertical Corridor will be held in Washington next week, underscoring the strategic coordination between Athens and Washington to diversify energy sources and strengthen regional supply routes across southeastern Europe.
Bipartisan Support for a Deepening Partnership
Mitsotakis emphasized that US-Greece relations enjoy longstanding bipartisan support in Washington, describing the current moment as an opportunity to deepen the partnership further.
He also referenced recent remarks by President Donald Trump during the presentation of credentials by Greece’s new ambassador in Washington, noting that the president had highlighted cooperation across defense, security, energy and artificial intelligence.
“There is an opportunity to explore the depth of this relationship and identify new areas of cooperation,” Mitsotakis said.
Sen. Moran echoed that sentiment, describing the friendship between the United States and Greece as both strong and evolving.
“The possibilities of our cooperation seem endless,” Moran said, while noting the progress already made in national security and economic ties.
Focus on Investment and Technology
Beyond defense and energy, the talks also touched on investment, particularly in technology and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Mitsotakis said he has discussed potential investments with major American technology companies and noted growing international interest in AI infrastructure. He recently returned from India, where he attended an artificial intelligence summit, and linked future AI investments to energy capacity and infrastructure development.
The prime minister expressed enthusiasm about expanding cooperation in these emerging sectors, positioning Greece as a potential hub for technology investment in the broader region.
Regional Developments Discussed
The two sides also made brief remarks on broader international and regional developments.Sen. Moran praised Greece’s stability and its international role, including within NATO, and congratulated Prime Minister Mitsotakis on what he described as the country’s progress under his leadership.
“It is an honor for us to be here,” Moran said, adding that members of the delegation bring experience from congressional committees focused on national security and the economy.
