Greek National Economy and Finance Minister and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis is in Bangkok for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings, scheduled for October 15-17, where he is set to meet senior international economic officials and participate in discussions on the global economy.

Pierrakakis will join IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the main panel of the meetings for a discussion on building resilient and dynamic economies for the future.

The talks come as the global economy faces multiple simultaneous challenges, including geopolitical tensions, a new energy crisis and volatility in international markets. These pressures have intensified the need for policies that combine economic growth with fiscal credibility and financial stability.

G7 finance ministers and central bank governors

In his capacity as Eurogroup president, Pierrakakis will participate in a meeting of G7 finance ministers and central bank governors, as well as a European coordination meeting ahead of the gathering.

The discussions are taking place as international economic cooperation becomes increasingly important for addressing shared challenges and maintaining confidence in financial markets.

Global economic outlook and financial stability

On October 16 and 17, Pierrakakis will also take part in the work of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), which addresses the global economic outlook, international imbalances and risks to financial stability.

The meetings will bring these issues into focus as policymakers consider the challenges facing the international economy.

European productivity and competitiveness

Pierrakakis is also scheduled to participate in a public discussion organized by the Atlantic Council on improving productivity in Europe and the conditions needed to strengthen the continent’s competitiveness.

During his stay in Bangkok, he will hold bilateral meetings with fellow finance ministers and representatives of international economic organizations.
