Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York City on Sept 23 on the sidelines of a UN General Assembly, media reports from Athens stated on Thursday. The latter cited government sources.
The meeting will reportedly take place at around midday, local time.
The same reports have the agenda of the meeting being compiled in the coming day, with the foreign ministers of either side and each leader’s diplomatic adviser also participating.
Mitsotakis mentioned the possibility of a meeting with Erdogan in New York during a television interview on Wednesday.
In responding to a question regarding Greek-Turkish relations, dismissed the possibility of any “heated incident” in the Aegean, without, however, allowing complacency, as he said.
“There’s an intent by both sides to find time, and I believe that since there is a willingness to find time, even though we’ll be there at the same time only briefly, I believe that we will be able to find the time to hold the meeting…” he said.
