A 12-year-old girl has died after being critically injured in a road accident in southern Crete, despite intensive medical treatment and emergency efforts to save her life.

The child passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning at a hospital in the city of Heraklion, where she had been placed in intensive care following a serious traffic collision the previous day.

According to hospital officials, she had undergone surgery and was being treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit due to the severity of her injuries. Reports indicate that she died at approximately 3 a.m., after her condition remained critical throughout her hospitalization.

The girl was initially transferred to a local health center before being moved to the larger hospital due to the seriousness of her condition. During transport, she reportedly suffered two cardiac arrests, with emergency medical staff carrying out resuscitation attempts.

Her condition remained extremely serious from the outset, and she was immediately admitted to intensive care upon arrival at the hospital.

The accident occurred when two vehicles collided under circumstances that are currently being investigated by authorities. The impact was severe enough that occupants became trapped inside the vehicles.

Firefighters and emergency medical teams were deployed to the scene, working to free those involved in the crash and provide urgent medical assistance. Despite these efforts, the child’s injuries proved fatal.
