38-Year-Old Arrested in Thessaloniki on European Warrant

A 38-year-old Greek national was arrested in Thessaloniki under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Germany over multiple financial crimes

A 38-year-old Greek man is facing prosecution in Germany on a series of financial charges, with German judicial authorities seeking his extradition to stand trial.

A European Arrest Warrant had been issued against him by the German authorities and was executed within the past 24 hours, resulting in his arrest in the Pylaia district of Thessaloniki.

The competent authorities of the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg have charged him with offenses that, under the Greek Penal Code, correspond to violations of insurance legislation, fraud, forgery, embezzlement, and fraudulent concealment of assets from creditors.

These acts are alleged to be connected to his business activities in Germany and are said to have taken place between July 2017 and January 2023.

The 38-year-old was brought before the Thessaloniki Court of Appeals, specifically its extradition division, where he reportedly stated that he does not wish to be extradited to Germany. Pending the decision of the competent Council on the German extradition request, his detention has been ordered.
