Analysis is progressing, testimonies are being reviewed, and new evidence in the Aigio double murder case, is pointing investigators toward fresh conclusions, as the police probe continues.

Nearly 30 days after the crime, authorities are awaiting DNA identification results from blood stains found at two separate spots in the house: in the hallway outside the blood stained room, and in the bedroom where the 54 year old victim and her 65 year old Italian co-defendant usually slept.

According to Live News, the first sample is a reddish brown stain found on the outer surface of a wardrobe in the second bedroom, the one belonging to the Italian man. The same sources report that the blood belongs to the 54 year old woman.

The second sample was found on the hallway floor, outside the bathroom door and in front of the bedroom entrance where Maria and Olympios were found dead.

Key questions remain. Can these samples identify the perpetrator? Could they support the Italian defendant’s claim that mother and son killed each other?

New details on the 65 year old defendant

Regarding the night of the crime, the Italian defendant has claimed he initially lay down next to his partner but got up because she was snoring and he could not sleep. He said he woke up around 11:00 the next morning.

Sedatives and cannabis were found in his system, a finding that, according to his lawyers, supports the claim that he was in a state of lethargy and out of touch with his surroundings that night.

Authorities are now examining whether the home contained sedatives or psychiatric medication, and if so, who purchased them and why.

The 54 year old victim’s sister told reporters that as far as she knew, neither sibling had ever been hospitalized or taken psychiatric medication, though she noted her sister was a bit more sensitive and under stress after losing her husband and their brother.

The victim’s psychological state

Close relatives and friends of the victims describe the 54 year old woman as having been in a fragile psychological state. According to them, both her son and her partner had been trying to stand by her and offer support.

Police expect results within the next 24 hours from the analysis of evidence collected, including a robot vacuum found in the home that may hold crucial traces.

For now, authorities still consider the Italian defendant the main suspect in the double killing. Lab results are expected to determine whether the initial suspicions will be confirmed, or whether the case, which has turned into a real thriller, will take a complete turn.
