Athens‘s public transport authority, OASA, is set to roll out a significant expansion of its urban bus network starting Friday, September 18, introducing four major service interventions across Eastern and Western Attica.
For the first time, the municipalities of Lavreotiki and Megara will be brought into the organization’s network, while service to Rafina, Mandra-Eidyllia and Thriasio Hospital will be upgraded through new routes and targeted extensions designed to strengthen their links with fixed-track transport.
The common thread running through the plan is connectivity: linking peri-urban areas to the Metro and the suburban rail line (Proastiakos), as well as to key infrastructure such as the ports of Rafina and Lavrio and Thriasio Hospital. The new routes and extensions will allow passengers to combine bus, trolley, Metro, tram and Proastiakos journeys — including the Magoula–Piraeus–Koropi stretch — all on a single ticket.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotsiras said the expansion marks another substantial step toward improving connections between Eastern and Western Attica and the center of Athens. “With the expansion of the urban transport network and its better integration with the Metro and the Proastiakos, we are taking another meaningful step to improve the connection of areas in Eastern and Western Attica — Rafina, Lavrio, Keratea, Megara, Nea Peramos, the Municipality of Mandra-Eidyllia, and the Thriasio Plain — with the center of Athens,” he stated.
