Greek authorities have expanded their investigation into the identity of a woman whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in Athens, after searches of domestic missing persons records produced no matches.
According to investigators, there are no reports in Greece corresponding to the victim, believed to be around 30 years old and approximately 1.61 meters tall. This has led police to consider the possibility that she was not a permanent resident of Greece and may not have had relatives or acquaintances in the country to report her missing.
French clue becomes focus of investigation
The most significant lead comes from the victim’s clothing. Investigators found French-language markings on her shorts referring to an institution or university with branches in several European countries.
Based on this evidence, homicide detectives are examining three main scenarios:
- The woman may have been a French tourist or student.
- She may have been an undocumented migrant who had previously lived in France.
- She may have travelled directly to Greece from her country of origin and was killed after arriving.
Greek authorities are now working closely with Europol, with particular attention focused on checking French missing persons databases in an effort to establish the victim’s identity.
Forensic findings
The forensic examination found no evidence suggesting sexual assault or rape, according to the information released.
Investigators also revealed details about how the body was concealed. They believe the perpetrator placed the woman inside a fabric bag, tied it shut, sealed it with adhesive tape, and then enclosed it inside a dark blue suitcase.
