The body of Archpriest Eustratios Dossos, widely known across Greece as “Papa Stratis,” was discovered on Monday afternoon (June 29) in the sea area of Pedi, in northeastern Lesvos.
The late cleric served for decades at the nationally renowned pilgrimage site of the Archangels in Mantamados, where he became a deeply influential spiritual figure. His ministry there was continuous and uninterrupted from June 7, 1970, until his death, shaping both the religious and social life of the local community.
In 1978, he was honored with the title of Archpriest by the late Metropolitan of Mithymna, Iakovos. Over the years, and particularly during visits by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Kalloni and Mantamados, he was also awarded the Cross of the Great Church of Christ in recognition of his long-standing service and contribution.
Papa Stratis leaves behind three children: Eleni, Panagiotis—Deputy Mayor of Western Lesvos—and Michail-Anthimos, Deputy Regional Governor of the North Aegean. His passing has caused deep sorrow in Lesvos and within the wider ecclesiastical community.
