A series of bomb threats targeting buildings in central Athens triggered a major police response Friday morning, with authorities carrying out security checks at four locations, including the French Consulate, the Egyptian Embassy and two business organizations.
According to the Hellenic Police, unknown callers contacted the French Consulate and the Egyptian Embassy at around 11 a.m., claiming that explosive devices had been placed inside the buildings. The callers did not provide any timeframe for a possible detonation.
About 15 minutes later, at 11:15 a.m., similar threats were made against the building of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA) and the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen (BEA), both located on Akadimias Street.
Authorities immediately mobilized specialized units, including the Hellenic Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department (TEEM), to inspect the targeted locations. Police remained on alert while checks were carried out. It was later determined that the calls where a hoax.
Previous bomb threat at French Embassy
The incident follows a separate bomb threat reported several days earlier at the French Embassy in Athens.
On July 27, an anonymous caller contacted the embassy at 11:40 a.m. and claimed that an explosive device had been placed inside the building.

No explosive device was found, and the previous warning was determined to have been a hoax, according to authorities.
