A traffic accident involving two buses occurred on Friday morning on Karamanli Avenue in Voula, a seaside suburb in southern Athens, heading toward Sounio.
The collision took place near Voula’s First Beach, a busy area that frequently sees high traffic, resulting in temporary congestion across the surrounding streets.
According to initial reports, 47 people were injured in the crash. The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear, and authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collision, however, according to initial information, one bus crashed into the rear of the other.
The vehicles involved were city buses, carrying mostly young passengers who had taken the route to head to the beach for a swim.
The injured individuals were transported to hospitals in Athens for further medical attention, with two of the them in serious condition — a woman and, reportedly, the driver of one of the buses. Among the injured are at least four children.
Police units and ambulances from the National Emergency Center (EKAV) responded swiftly to the scene. An investigation is currently underway to shed light on the conditions that led to the crash.
