A disturbing incident at Athens’ Monastiraki metro station has raised concerns about parental supervision and compliance with anti-smoking laws. A young child, estimated to be around five years old, was seen vaping while sitting in the arms of his mother inside the crowded station.
Footage captured by another parent shows the child holding the e-cigarette, mimicking adult behavior by placing it in his mouth and inhaling. Despite witnessing this, the mother reportedly did not intervene, simply observing the child.
The incident took place on Monday evening around 6:00 PM, during peak hours when the station was busy with commuters. The event highlights the risks associated with children being exposed to smoking or vaping at an early age, especially indoors where smoking is legally prohibited under Greek anti-smoking regulations.
Authorities and health experts emphasize the importance of adult responsibility in preventing minors from accessing or using tobacco and vaping products, citing long-term health concerns and legal restrictions on indoor smoking.
