One of Europe’s tallest Christmas trees is now lighting up Crete, rising majestically at the entrance of the iconic Samaria Gorge, in southwest Crete in the regional unit of Chania.

Set amid the striking natural landscape of the plateau of Omalos, the impressive tree has become a festive landmark in one of the island’s most beautiful settings.

According to information from Patris.gr, the countdown to the illumination began at 6 p.m. on Sunday, when the towering tree—reaching an impressive height of nearly 45 meters—was officially lit.

The celebration took place near the Samaria Gorge parking area and drew visitors from across Crete, who gathered to enjoy the festivities and the lively party that followed.

The event featured a rich program of activities for both children and adults, creating a warm Christmas atmosphere framed by the unique and awe-inspiring scenery of the Samaria National Park.
