Two powerful explosions shook the eastern side of Rome earlier today, Friday, July 4, leaving several people seriously injured. According to initial media reports, the blasts occurred at a fuel storage facility.
The incident took place at a depot storing diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on Via dei Gordiani, sending shockwaves through the Italian capital. The force of the explosions was so intense that it was felt across large parts of the city.
At least ten people, including eight police officers, a firefighter, and an emergency services worker, were reportedly injured in the massive explosion that rocked a fuel storage site.
Residents in the area were forced to evacuate their homes following what has now been confirmed as a double explosion.
According to reports cited by the Mirror, witnesses detected the strong smell of fuel shortly before the first blast. Moments later, a second, more powerful explosion lit up the sky with a massive fireball.

Firefighters were dispatched after emergency calls reported a truck striking a fuel pipeline. By the time crews arrived, the first explosion had already occurred. One firefighter was reportedly rushed to hospital with injuries sustained during the response.
The blasts caused structural damage to nearby buildings, raising concerns about further instability in the area.
Local news outlet Roma Today published a striking image showing a towering plume of smoke and flames rising above the fuel station.
The blasts prompted immediate safety measures, with Rome’s public transportation authority, Atac, announcing the closure of the nearby Teano metro station, following directives from law enforcement.
