A video documenting the alleged actions of a fraudster who entered the home of an elderly woman in Menidi, a suburb of Athens, by pretending to be an electricity technician has caused concern.
The footage shows the young man arriving at the woman’s door shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday and introducing himself as an employee sent to inspect the home’s electrical system.
Unaware that she was being targeted in a scam, the elderly woman allowed him inside and tried to help him locate the electrical panel. Due to difficulties moving around, she gave him instructions from a distance while he moved freely through the rooms of the house.
According to the security camera footage, the man did not simply check the electrical installations. Instead, he is seen walking around the home, opening doors and looking through different areas searching for money or valuables.
At the same time, a person speaking on the phone with the suspect presented himself as a supervisor or authorized employee, attempting to make the story appear more credible and reassure the victim.
At one point, the suspect asks the woman: “Where is your husband?” According to police sources cited in the report, the question was considered significant, as it may have been intended to determine whether the woman was alone in the house or whether another person was present.
