The Hellenic Red Cross is providing emergency assistance on the front lines of the major wildfires affecting Greece, deploying volunteer rescuers, nurses, rescue vehicles and Mobile Health Units to support firefighting operations and affected communities.

The organization’s teams are working alongside firefighters by providing first aid, medical support and essential supplies to both emergency responders and residents. Where needed, volunteers are also assisting with the safe evacuation of people from threatened areas and helping care for animals at risk.

Red Cross personnel and volunteers are operating at several of the country’s largest wildfire fronts, including Porto Germeno, Nerantzies in Aigialeia, Domvraina and Xironomi in the regional unit of Boeotia, and Kompoti in Arta, while remaining on continuous operational standby.

At the same time, the Hellenic Red Cross has launched an appeal for immediate humanitarian assistance for people affected by the wildfires, urging individuals and organizations to donate long-lasting food and medical supplies.

Requested food items include flour, pasta, legumes, evaporated milk, powdered infant formula, canned foods, breakfast cereals and rusks.

The organization is also seeking medical supplies, including sterile paraffin gauze dressings, lubricating eye drops and sterile saline solution for eye care.

Donations can be delivered to the Hellenic Red Cross headquarters at 1 Lykavittou Street in the Kolonaki district of Athens. The organization said supplies will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Red Cross also issued a separate appeal urging residents in wildfire-affected areas not to leave pets or domestic animals tied up or locked inside during precautionary evacuations.

“Our solidarity can make a difference,” the organization said, stressing the urgent need to support communities affected by the destructive wildfires.
