A two-car collision on the westbound lanes of the Athens-Patras tollway at the 187th kilometer (Panagopoulas intersection) on Thursday evening left one person dead, and the other two people in the second vehicle hospitalized.
According to local media, the two cars collided under as yet unknown circumstances, with the result being one of the two to catch on fire.
The tollway’s emergency responders later recovered the charred body of the victim from the wreckage. The other two individuals were transported to a nearby hospital.
The old Athens to Patras highway, especially the portion from Corinth to Patras, was previously one of Greece’s deadliest roadways, with the new closed tollway built in its place significantly reducing road accidents, particularly fatal ones such as the aforementioned.
