A new 24-hour strike has been called by Greece’s Panhellenic Union of Merchant Marine Sailors, keeping passenger/vehicle ferries operating between Greece and Italy at dock for the ninth consecutive day.

The line impacted by the strike connects Greece’s largest ports on the west coast of the country- Patras and Igoumenitsa- with Italy.

The strike begins Tuesday, June 25 at 6:00 a.m., and will end on Wednesday, June 26 at the same time.

The seafarers union is calling on the Greek government and the Association of Passenger Shipping Companies to address concerns about safety on board vessels. Some concerns include what seafarers consider to be an insufficient number of staff manning the garages.
