A forest fire is burning in the Panachaiko mountain range located in Achaea in the Peloponnese. The area is 40 km west of the city of Patras.

First responders are dispatched to the scene, but the rugged area, steep terrain, and strong winds are hampering efforts to put the blaze under control. The fire broke out a little after midday and spread rapidly, fueled by strong gusts.

Reports indicate that no residential areas are currently under immediate threat from the flames, which are largely burning in the forest.

According to reports, sixty-five firefighters, two ground units from the 6th Special Disaster Response Unit (EMODE), and twenty fire engines are operating. Aircraft, including three helicopters and five airplanes, are carrying out water drops. Volunteer groups with smaller vehicles are also assisting.
