Full Compensation for Tempi Train Crash Injured

Greece’s national health insurer will reimburse 100% of eligible medical expenses not covered through standard electronic prescriptions, following an individual application process

Greece’s national health insurance provider, National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY), has announced that survivors injured in the 2023 Tempi train crash will receive 100% reimbursement for specific medical services and medical devices related to their recovery.

The decision includes individuals officially recognized as injured in the February 28, 2023 railway disaster in Tempi. It covers healthcare services and medical technology products that cannot be prescribed electronically or provided through contracted healthcare providers under the organization’s standard digital systems.

What Is Covered

According to the decision, beneficiaries who have already incurred — or are expected to incur — expenses for healthcare services or medical devices not processed through the usual electronic prescription platforms may apply for full reimbursement.

This includes services and products that cannot be issued via EOPYY’s benefits regulations system or through the national e-prescription infrastructure.

How to Apply

Compensation will be granted following the submission of an individual application.

Applicants must submit the required supporting documents, which may include:

  • A medical certificate
  • Proof of payment, such as receipts or invoices

Requests can be filed either in person at EOPYY’s regional directorates or electronically through the Health Insurance File (FAU) platform. The relevant regional offices will review the submitted documentation and issue the reimbursement decision.
