Crews from the Municipality of Athens have cleaned graffiti and unwanted markings off the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis, acting on a request from the Ministry of Culture.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas announced the work, stressing that the city’s cleaning services responded quickly, with the goal of protecting one of the world’s most important cultural heritage monuments.
“A big thank you to the specialized cleaning crews,” he said, adding that the effort to keep the city cleaner continues.
According to figures released by the Municipality of Athens, 417 anti-graffiti actions were carried out across the capital’s seven municipal districts in just the first half of 2026.
These interventions are part of a broader push to improve the image of Athens, with a focus on caring for public spaces and protecting sites of particular cultural and historical value.
