One of Greece’s most remarkable modern infrastructure projects is drawing attention through a newly released aerial video, showcasing its scale and architectural complexity.
Located in a mountainous region in northwestern Greece, the Metsovitikos Bridge stands out as the tallest bridge in the country featuring ground-supported piers. The structure is part of a major highway network and represents a significant engineering achievement.
Stretching 538 meters in total length, the bridge includes a maximum span of 235 meters and reaches a height of 102.8 meters at its tallest point. These dimensions place it among the 15 largest bridges worldwide in terms of span, highlighting its importance not only nationally but also on a global scale.
The newly released footage captures the bridge from above, offering a sweeping view of how the structure integrates into the rugged terrain. The surrounding mountainous landscape further emphasizes the bridge’s height and the technical challenges involved in its construction.
It is noted that the designation of “tallest bridge” refers specifically to bridges supported by ground piers. Other types of bridges, such as cable-stayed or sea-crossing structures, fall into different categories and are not directly comparable using the same criteria.
