Greek Independence Day Military Parade Underway in Athens

Traffic regulations are already in effect from 6 am, along with changes to the schedules of the metro and tram services to facilitate the uninterrupted conduct of the parade

The celebration of the 203rd Anniversary of Greek Independence Day on March 25, culminated in the military parade in downtown Athens underway from 11 am. The celebration coincides with the major Orthodox Christian feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos.

Units of the Hellenic Armed Forces and Security Corps began the parade in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier at the Greek Parliament, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou who had earlier laid a wreath at the monument.

Traffic Regulations:

From 06:00 until the end of the military parade, temporary and gradual traffic interruptions have been implemented, with parking prohibited. Stopping and parking are forbidden on several central streets in downtown Athens and surrounding routes including the following streets and perpendicular streets up to the first parallel road:

  • Vasilissis Sofias Avenue,
  • Vasileos Georgiou B’ Avenue, along its entire length
  • Vasileos Georgiou A’ Avenue, along its entire length
  • Vasilissis Amalias Avenue, along its entire length and in both traffic lanes
  • Eleftheriou Venizelou (Panepistimiou) Street, along its entire length
  • Omonia Square
  • Peiraios Street
  • Athinas Street
