Interpol-Wanted Turkish Man Arrested in Greece Over Drug Case

A 43-year-old Turkish national wanted by authorities in Turkey was detained in northern Greece, where police found thousands of pharmaceutical tablets during a search

A Turkish national wanted internationally through Interpol was arrested in Greece after police discovered thousands of pharmaceutical tablets during an investigation into the illegal production, processing and distribution of harmful medicines.

The 43-year-old man was detained by officers from the Northern Greece Organized Crime Division following an operation based on information gathered through international police cooperation channels.

Authorities said the man was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of Turkish authorities, who were seeking his arrest so he could serve a lengthy prison sentence.

According to police, the charges linked to the Turkish case include escape, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, illegal firearms trafficking, causing serious bodily harm, forgery, armed threats, disobedience to authorities and involvement in illegal gambling activities.

During a search conducted in the presence of a judicial official, police found a bag inside his room containing 5,342 tablets of neurological and psychiatric pharmaceutical substances. The medication was confiscated, along with a mobile phone, and the man was arrested at the scene.

A separate case was also filed against another Turkish national after two apparently counterfeit vehicle license plates were found at his home and seized by authorities.

The arrested man is expected to appear before the relevant prosecutorial authorities.
