Greek authorities are continuing their investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 42-year-old paramedic on the island of Syros, as surveillance footage and digital evidence are being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
A crime scene reconstruction was carried out on Saturday, with the 42-year-old suspect and his wife returning to the scene in handcuffs under heavy police escort. The reconstruction lasted about three hours and, according to available information, investigators found no significant contradictions in the couple’s account. Authorities believe parts of their statements are consistent with the video evidence collected so far.
Following the procedure, the pair appeared before prosecutors. The man has been charged with causing fatal bodily harm, while his wife faces a charge of complicity. Both have been granted until Tuesday to give their formal testimony.
Suspect Claims He Acted After Wife Was Attacked
According to the suspect’s account, his wife opened the front door and was confronted by an attacker. He claims he grabbed the knife he had been using while eating and attacked the 42-year-old paramedic.
His wife told investigators she had noticed a vehicle following her earlier on the day of the incident.
Police are also examining the suspect’s mobile phone and the couple’s electronic devices. According to the initial review, investigators found no communications between the suspect and the victim, and the woman’s phone number was not stored in his contacts.
Surveillance Footage Examined
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage that reportedly shows the victim approaching the couple’s home with her face partially covered, wearing gloves and carrying a knife before ringing the doorbell.
According to the investigation, the suspect’s wife opened the door and sustained minor injuries after being attacked with the knife. The suspect then retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim from behind.
The confrontation reportedly continued outside the house, where investigators say the suspect threw various objects at the woman before she collapsed a short distance away.
Previous Burglary Reported
A neighbor told local media that the suspect’s home had been broken into about a month earlier. According to the neighbor, he installed security cameras following that incident.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue gathering evidence to determine the circumstances and motive behind the fatal attack.
Families and Community in Shock
The killing has deeply affected both families and the local community.
The victim’s mother said she could not understand what had happened, describing her daughter as a cheerful person who had recently told her she was happy and doing well.
The victim’s former husband said the two families had known each other socially for years because their children were friends.
A childhood friend also rejected speculation that the paramedic had gone to the house to commit a burglary, describing her as a dedicated professional who devoted herself to helping others and supporting her children.
The 42-year-old paramedic’s funeral is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, while investigators continue working to clarify the circumstances that led to her death.
