Latest Scam Message Appears to Come from Greek Gov.gr

Fraudsters are sending messages from a sender displayed as “GR GOV,” urging citizens to pay supposed fines

Yet another phishing attempt is circulating in Greece – this time imitating the Greek government’s official notifications system from Gov.gr.

Specifically, mobile phone users are receiving an SMS from a sender displayed as “GR GOV,” stating: “Traffic violation issued. Payment is owed.” The message includes a link, urging the recipient to click on it in order to pay the alleged fine.

The government advises that if you receive a similar message on your mobile phone, do not click on the link and do not provide e-banking passwords or card details. It reminds the public that an official message never contains a link.

To check whether you have a fine for any violation, you can do so only by logging into your Citizen’s Inbox on Gov.gr yourself, using your Greek tax credentials for TaxisNET.
