Deputy Minister of National Defense Athanasios Davakis reiterated that young men and women enrolling in military academies this year will be accepted for registration with any official document that verifies their identity. He made the statement in response to a topical question from Niki party MP Spyros Tsironis.

Candidates accepted even if they have lost their police ID

The deputy minister stressed that any official document verifying the identity of these young candidates is sufficient, as has always been the case.

He noted that military academies have historically accepted candidates even if they had lost their police identity card, as long as they held some other document, such as a passport, that verified their identity.

Clarifications on the new ID cards

Davakis also pointed out that the announcement made by the General Staff of National Defense simply reflects the legal obligation for all military personnel to obtain the new ID cards by August 2026. He emphasized, however, that this does not mean any other document capable of verifying a candidate’s identity will no longer be accepted.
